Mark Clayton Southers—an award-winning former Pittsburgh Courier photographer and erstwhile Artistic Director of Theatre at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture—has directed the efforts of Pittsburgh Playwrights Theater for more than a decade.
Located at 937 Liberty Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh, this beautiful penthouse space is a perfect home for fine productions of local and national luminaries such as Dr. Tameka Cage-Conley, Wali Jamal, and others. Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company is one of the very few that holds the distinction of producing all ten plays from Pulitzer-prize winner and local playwright August Wilson’s ten-play cycle.
They are committed to inclusion, ensuring that its board members, audience, and talent are racially and culturally diverse.
